The etymology of words can often remind us that how far they have travelled before they find us. Andrew Macfarlane in his book ‘The Old Ways’ reminds us that “‘To learn’ means at root – at route – ‘to follow a track’.” I believe that the role of the teacher is to illuminate the track and show pupils the way.
